Country Expert Job Description

The curriculum for the course and the primary teaching will be done by a "Country Expert," an outside graduate student or Latin American consultant who will be paid $2,400 for the year and be given an additional $600 plus travel costs to continue with the group to Latin America in May. This person will hold the primary responsibility for teaching each session, designing the curriculum and lesson plans for the entire course, helping to plan and lead the travel portion of the experience, and recommending annual additions to the Resource Center.

This outside Latin American Expert will be paired with at least one "Head Teacher" from Warren Easton who will be chosen by the principal ideally from a Social Studies, History or Spanish background. This Head Teacher will work closely with the Expert and will also be assured flexibility by the principal to attend extra Latin American related professional development activities throughout the school year and in the summers in return for his/her service.

Qualifications: Qualifications of a successful candidate include:
· Master's Degree and a minimum of 1-3 years teaching experience at the K-12 or undergraduate university level
· Must have lived and/or worked in the Latin American country they plan to focus on for at least three months (time spent studying at a University abroad does not count toward this requirement)
· Excellent interpersonal and communications skills and a dynamic and engaging teaching style
· Willingness to serve as a mentor to the "Head Teacher" at Warren Easton and work closely with the faculty committee
