Warren Easton Public High School Warren Easton was chosen because of its outstanding reputation for both leadership and scholarship. For the last twenty years it has housed the the largest percentage of students of Latin American heritage in Orleans Parish and although those numbers have been declining since the local Latino population has been moving from the city to the suburbs, such students still comprise almost 20% of the population. The school has a crucial role in the project. They house the course and the Resource Center, choose the teachers and students who participate each year, and manage the daunting logistics of scheduling the course and excusing the participants from regular classroom obligations. This first year they have also invested in the program financially by matching Pan-American Life's donation to develop the Resource Center holdings. Under the masterful guidance of its Principal Dr. Philmon Edwards, the school has integrated the Latin American Immersion Project into its culture and secured its own place in the community as an acadmic force. We look forward to a long and richly productive partnership. |
